INTRODUCTION
Captain Otis Halverson (October 14, 1916-April 14, 1945) Otis Halverson was born in the small town of Laramie, Wyoming, a farm boy with little to his name. However, as he grew older he became an example of the true American dream. He joined the U.S. Army in 1934, young and ambitious to explore the world.
When World War II began he joined the 10th Mountain Infantry Division and trained at Camp Hale in Colorado. He rose to rank of Captain.
In April of 1945, after arriving in Italy, Captain Halverson saw heavy combat duty.
On April 14th, 1945, Captain Halverson and his men were ordered to attack a heavily armed enemy position near Mt. Della Spe. Italy. As he and his troops approached the enemy, they took on heavy shower of bullets and shells.
Leading his men to their objective, Captain Halverson valiantly took the lead to clear the area. He was wounded by an exploding mortar shell. This would proved fatal later that same day.
For his leadership and bravery in this battle he was awarded the SILVER STAR
