Born in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1941, Mr. Nelson has been and continues to be a collector of all things western. He has between 12-15,000 books and artifacts in his collection. Mr. Nelson's grandparents were homesteaders west of Newcastle, Wyoming and his mother was raised on a Wyoming ranch, making him a third-generation westerner.
Mr. Nelson practiced law in Cheyenne for 26 years before retiring in 1993 to spend more time with his other business interests and building and maintaining his galleries and museum. He believes a true appreciation and awareness of the western heritage is simply not valued enough in today's society. He wants others to continue on his path. He currently has several galleries located in Sante Fe, New Mexico and resides there part-time.
A Wyoming big game hunter since the age of 14, Mr. Nelson began serious worldwide hunting in 1981. Since then he has hunted on every continent and has hunted in Africa a total of ten times. There are numerous examples of the wild game he has hunted displayed at the Nelson Museum of the West.
Mr. Nelson is dedicated to the preservation and conservation of the world's wildlife resources and artifacts.
