Edward C. Meyer (Born 1928)
Edward Charles Meyer was born in St. Marys, Pennsylvania. He is a retired United States Army General who served as the Chief of Staff of the United States Army from 1979 to 1983. After graduating from the United States Military Academy in 1951, he was commissioned a second lieutenant and attended the United States Army Infantry School at Fort Benning.
He served as a platoon leader, company commander, and battalion staff officer while serving in the Korea War. Meyer also served in the Vietnam War as deputy commander of the 3rd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division and the 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry during the war from 1965 to 1966. He returned a few years later to command the 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division.
Meyer's years of service spanned from 1951 through 1983. He received numerous awards including one Distinguished Service Medal.
