Gordon R. Sullivan (Born 1937)
Gordon Russell Sullivan was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He is a retired Army General Officer, who served as the 32nd Chief of Staff of the United States Army and as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Sullivan was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Norwich University and a Master of Arts degree in political science from the University of New Hampshire.
During his Army career, Sullivan held multiple positions and his overseas assignments included four tours in Europe, two tours in the Vietnam War and one in Korea. As the Chief of Staff of the Army, he created the vision and led the team that transitioned the Army from its Cold War posture.
Sullivan's years of service spanned from 1959 through 1995 and his awards included one Defense Distinguished Service Medal, two Distinguished Service Medals, one Defense Superior Service Medal, one Legion of Merit, one Bronze Star, one Purple Heart, and several others
