Dennis J. Reimer (Born 1939)
Dennis Joe Reimer grew up in Medford, Oklahoma. He is a retired United States Army General who served as the Chief of Staff of the United States Army from 1995 to 1999. After graduating from the United States Military Academy (West Point) in 1962, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant and attended the field artillery officer orientation course at Fort Sill.
Reimer served in the Vietnam War as an artillery officer and executive officer in the 2nd Battalion, 4th Artillery, 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam between 1968 to 1970. He has been credited with revamping the Army during a period of high-tempo deployments, including peacemaking in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo.
Reimer's years of service spanned from 1962 through 1999 and his awards included one Defense Distinguished Service Medal, one Army Distinguished Service Medal, two Legion of Merits, one Distinguished Flying Cross, three Bronze Stars, and one Purple Heart.
