Surgeon General McPeak - Service uniform
General Sloan was born in 1934 at Clarksburg, West Virginia.
After graduating from his schooling he was assigned as a flight surgeon at Kelly Air Force Base, Texas (1960). Following the completion of an internship he was assigned to the Air Force Hospital, Tachikawa Air Base, Japan, where he served initially as chief of the Medicine Division and Dialysis Unit (1966).
Later he became director of hospital services and deputy commander (1968).
After his return to the U.S. he served as chief of renal service, Malcolm Grow USAF Center (1976); Duty as director of base medical service (1978-1980); deputy director for medical plans and resource, office of the Surgeon General (1980) and later became director; deputy surgeon general (1985-1988); Command Surgeon at the Headquarters U.S. European Command (1988-1991).
General Sloan is a chief flight surgeon. His military awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (One Oak Leaf Cluster), Air Force Commendation Medal (One Oak Leaf Cluster), National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal.
He retired from the military August 1, 1994.
